The National Weather Service in Milwaukee has issued a Dense Fog Advisory for areas of south central and southeast Wisconsin until 9 a.m. CST this morning, according to a recent statement, cautionary measures are recommended as visibility may drop to one quarter mile or less giving rise to potentially hazardous driving conditions; the advisory includes cities such as Argyle, Waukesha, Milwaukee, and Kenosha amongst others, calling for drivers to exercise increased caution by slowing down, using their headlights, and maintaining a safe distance from other vehicles on the road.
Moreover, the National Weather Service predicts a scattered shower scenario before 9 AM today followed by patchy drizzle with areas of dense fog generally clouding over the region, and while the fog is set to dissipate as the morning progresses commuters in the affected regions which span Washington to Kenosha should be prepared for low visibility levels during the early hours which seem enough to make travel precarious, especially considering the chance of light freezing drizzle in more central areas of Wisconsin which can lead to slick spots on untreated roads and surfaces.
In light of the impending conditions, the National Weather Service's detailed forecast for subsequent days, accessible via their official website, outlines potential for rain with a high near 44 on Friday and a 90% chance of precipitation; Friday night will also see rain, possibly accumulating between a tenth and quarter of an inch, and the possibility of rain continues albeit less so, through the weekend and into the early parts of next week with no significant hazardous weather expected during this period.
As it stands, the outlook from today into the start of 2025 does not seem overly grim, hazard-wise, which should come as a relief for Wisconsin residents post the Christmas celebration; after the fog lifts today, they are looking at mostly cloudy skies and moderate temperatures with light rain here and there, a mostly gentle lead-in to the New Year although as per the National Weather Service's hazardous weather outlook, there is a slight chance of rain and snow on Tuesday night with a minimal 20% chance of precipitation so while nothing too severe is showing on the radar, residents and travelers in the region should keep an eye out for updates and travel safely during these intermittently wet and foggy, closing days of the year.
