
Last Saturday morning, a male driver was arrested after his vehicle was struck by a westbound Long Island Rail Road train in Central Islip, resulting in substantial wreckage. The collision occurred just before 4:30 a.m. near Lowell and East Suffolk avenues, as per a report from the MTA detailed by New York Post. Despite the significant damage to the car, which was nearly flattened, images from the scene show that the single occupant survived the impact.
Subsequent to the accident, the individual within the car, identified as Jonathan Hernandez-Lima, faced several charges. Hernandez-Lima, 27, was hospitalized following his arrest. Specific charges as outlined by News 12 Long Island, include DWI, reckless endangerment, criminal mischief, leaving the scene with injury, and leaving the scene of property damage. The authorities are continuing to investigate what precisely led to this perilous situation.
The crash caused significant delays, but the MTA confirmed that service was eventually restored. According to images shared by ABC 7 and the New York Post, no passengers or crew on the early morning train were injured.
