On Thursday next week, the renovated Stanford L. Warren Branch Library will reopen at 10 a.m. after extensive improvements. Located at 1201 Fayetteville Street, the library has been a community staple and is inviting patrons to explore its transformation and borrow items from its collection, according to the Durham County website.
The reopening festivities will not include public computers and printing services, which will be available the following day. Eileen Watts Welch will celebrate her great-grandfather, Aaron McDuffie Moore, a key figure in the library’s history, and discuss the Selena Warren Wheeler Special Collection, which began with Moore's 1913 book donation.
Deputy Director Stephanie Fennell said, "To the contractors, library and County team members, and community stakeholders who made this possible, I express my sincere gratitude," in a statement from Durham County. Her words highlight the collective effort to revitalize the Stanford L. Warren Branch, ensuring it remains an important part of Durham’s history and future.
Friends of the Durham Library, who support local literary efforts, will co-sponsor Welch's talk. While the renovation preserves the library’s history, it also adds modern features to meet current and future needs. Updates to furniture, shelving, and other elements aim to connect the past with the community’s future.
