A tragic incident occurred just before the holiday rush, as a three-vehicle crash in north Durham on Saturday evening claimed the life of a 67-year-old woman. According to CBS17, police reported that Nathane Blackmon, a 42-year-old resident of Durham, was arrested in connection with the deadly accident that also left two other individuals injured.
Officials say that Blackmon was driving a 2011 GMC Yukon northbound on N. Roxboro Street when he veered into oncoming traffic, colliding with both a 2009 Honda Accord and a 2000 Chevy Silverado. The Honda, driven by Dawn Tucker of Durham, bore the brunt of the impact. Despite medical efforts, Tucker passed away from the injuries sustained in the crash. As reported by WRAL, a passenger in the Honda was hospitalized with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
The ABC11 report specifies that Blackmon has been charged with driving while impaired (DWI), driving left of center, and failing to wear a seat belt. In the unfolding aftermath of the crash, the Durham Police Department indicated that additional charges are likely, contingent on the progression of their investigation into the incident which shook the local community during what should have been a season of peace and preparation for the upcoming holidays.
The driver of the Chevy Silverado, also caught in the chaos of the collision, sustained minor injuries but did not require hospitalization. Law enforcement officials are imploring the public for assistance—if anyone has information about the crash, Investigator J.T.
