East Austin Bike Shop Strikes Back, Enhanced Security After Double BurglarySource: Google Street View

East Austin's local business, East Side Pedal Pushers, has faced a series of unfortunate events, with thieves targeting the bike shop twice within the same week. As reported by FOX 7 Austin, the owner expressed his dismay about the burglaries, one of which was captured on camera on the night before Thanksgiving.

The recorded footage showed a suspect arriving at the shop, forcefully making an entry by breaking the door with a brick, and slipping through the bars. In the statement obtained by FOX 7 Austin, the shop owner recounted that the thieves stole a tip jar containing about $50 during the first break-in. However, a subsequent theft that Sunday night resulted in the loss of five valuable bikes, although the front door had been secured with plywood after the first incident. He described how the guy "got through the bars again" and how bikes, including mountain and electric bikes, worth over $10,000 were taken.

In the aftermath of the thefts, two of the stolen bikes have been fortuitously recovered. Yahoo News shared details of these recoveries, one involving the owner's friend spotting someone riding the mountain bike and contacting the owner. The other bike made its way back to the shop after a buyer realized from a Facebook Marketplace ad that he had purchased a stolen bike and reached out to return it to the shop.

Amidst the struggle to recover from these incidents, the bike shop owner has taken measures to enhance security at his establishment, as he told FOX 7 Austin. He confirmed spending $600 to reclaim the second bike, hoping to prevent future burglaries. As the shop works to regain its footing, the Austin community has been alerted and should remain vigilant. The thief is reportedly still at large, and the shop continues its effort to recover the remaining stolen items.
