Chapel Hill emergency services responded to a home after reports surfaced of a possible explosion in Chatham County. While details are still unfolding, the incident, which took place at a two-story house on the 800 block of Lystra Road, did not result in any injuries, as reported by abc11.
A neighbor described the event, noting the husband, who grew up in the neighborhood, lives there with his family. Despite the severity of the situation, both the mother and daughter were able to safely escape. CBS17 reported that the fire department believes a propane tank connected to a grill may have worsened the fire.
Gusty winds made the situation harder for fire crews as they worked to control the blaze. Amid the chaos, the structure was severely damaged and ultimately destroyed.
According to a report by The News & Observer, images captured from an abc11 helicopter revealed the extent of the devastation, with footage showing the charred remnants of what used to be a familial abode.
