
An unfortunate head-on collision on State Road 70 in Manatee County this past Saturday night has left two people deceased and three others injured, as per reports from the Florida Highway Patrol. The crash occurred near Betts Road in Myakka City around 8 p.m. when a pickup truck and an SUV collided while travelling in opposite directions. The unfortunate event unfolded when a 31-year-old man from Bradenton attempted to overtake westbound traffic in the eastbound lane, according to information from WFLA.
The SUV's maneuver tragically resulted in the death of a 56-year-old Bradenton man, a passenger in the SUV, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Moreover, the 47-year-old driver of the pickup truck, hailing from Arcadia, also succumbed to fatal injuries. The driver of the SUV was reported to have sustained serious injuries and was subsequently transported to a local hospital. Two additional passengers in the SUV, a 57-year-old Bradenton woman and a 34-year-old Bradenton man, escaped with minor injuries, "according to investigators" reported by FOX 13 News.
The aftermath of the crash prompted an investigation, which was still in progress as of the latest updates yesterday afternoon. The names of the individuals involved have not been released pending further investigation and family notifications. For the time being, no charges have been reported in relation with the collision.
