
Time is ticking for those impacted by the Bridge Fire with the deadline for federal disaster loan applications rapidly approaching. As reported by Supervisor Kathryn Barger's office, survivors have until December 23, 2024, to apply for low-interest loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), which could provide critical financial support for rebuilding efforts. These loans are open to homeowners, renters, business owners, and nonprofit entities.
In details shared by Supervisor Barger, there's an emphasis on the importance of these loans as they can greatly assist those who are dealing with the fallout of the Bridge Fire property loss or damage can be financially debilitating and these loans, ranging up to $500,000 for real estate, and $100,000 for personal property, offer a tangible lifeline for the affected residents and business owners. “My heart goes out to the residents in Mt. Baldy, Wrightwood, and surrounding communities who lost homes and property,” Supervisor Barger said, “The recovery process can be overwhelming, but there are resources available to help you rebuild."
The Bridge Fire, which began on September 8, 2024, tore through sections of the Angeles National Forest, destroying over 56,000 acres, and it either destroyed or damaged more than 100 structures. Barger's office highlights that, despite the uncertainty people may feel about their qualifications, it's advised to apply for these loans they come with no obligation to accept, but they ensure that all options are considered during the restoration period.
Recovery is a monumental task, and Supervisor Barger has spoken to the need for community access to any support available, “Rebuilding is never easy and it’s a long process. I want my constituents to have access to all recovery resources available,” she mentioned.
