The Florida Highway Patrol is actively searching for a driver involved in a deadly hit-and-run accident that resulted in the death of a bicyclist in Orange County. The fatal incident occurred on the evening of November 20, around 6:25 p.m., at the intersection of State Road 527, locally known as Orange Avenue, and 6th Street, as reported by ClickOrlando.
Details of the crash outline an unknown vehicle traveling southbound in Orange Avenue's continuous left turn lane as the bicyclist crossed eastward from the south shoulder. The cyclist, who was not in a marked crosswalk at the time of the incident, found themselves in the precarious path of the oncoming vehicle. After being struck by this vehicle, the bicyclist collided with the rear of a stopped RAM 1500 pickup truck, WFTV reported.
The hit-and-run victim, a 39-year-old Orlando man, was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center in critical condition but tragically succumbed to his injuries on November 29. According to officials, the RAM 1500 driver, a 52-year-old Kissimmee woman, remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities.
Investigators believe the vehicle that fled is possibly a white Ryder box truck, which is anticipated to exhibit damage to the right front. Florida Highway Patrol urges anyone with information about the crash to call FHP at 407-737-2213 or Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS.
