A fatal fire in Queens has claimed the life of one individual, as flames engulfed a garden apartment yesterday morning. The incident took place in a three-story building located on 190th Lane in the Fresh Meadows area, roughly a stone's throw from the intersection of 192 Street and 69 Avenue. According to ABC7NY, emergency services rushed to the scene shortly after 7 a.m., as the FDNY received reports of the fire.
Despite quick action, firefighters arrived to find the structure ablaze, a grim reality that concluded with the discovery of a man's body after the fire had been subdued. Identity of the man, remains unreleased as next of kin notifications are pending, and investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing. The New York Post reports that the fire was under control within 30 minutes of firefighters' arrival, "The flames were under control within 30 minutes, and the body was soon found inside," an FDNY representative explained.
Photographs circulating from the scene depict the somber moments following the extinguishment, as responders are seen transporting a body away from the charred remnants of the building. The apartment complex, housing twelve units, now joins a lamentable tally of recent fire tragedies in the city. This particular event follows another fatal fire that, took the life of a 78-year-old man in an Upper West Side apartment, as highlighted by New York Post.
Authorities have yet to determine the origin or cause of the fire. Details concerning the circumstances around the man’s death remain sparse, investigations by both the FDNY and law enforcement are expected to shed light on this tragic occurrence in the coming days.
