Hawaiian Airlines will take over several West Coast routes to Hawaii previously operated by Alaska Airlines. This change is expected to lead to new nonstop flights from Seattle to Tokyo Narita and Seoul Incheon. As a result, Hawaiian Airlines will increase its aircraft and crew to support the expanded service, according to The Garden Island.
Alaska Air Group announced that Seattle will become a new global gateway with nonstop flights to Tokyo Narita starting May 12, 2025. Hawaiian Airlines will also adjust its Japan routes, moving some flights from Honolulu to Seattle and adding more to Tokyo Haneda. These changes aim to offer more travel options for both West Coast passengers and those from the East Coast and Midwest. "We believe our guests will be as excited as we are about these new nonstop flights to Tokyo and Seoul – two of the world’s most dynamic cities," said Ben Minicucci, CEO of Alaska Air Group, in a statement obtained by Hawaiian Airlines' Newsroom.
Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines are teaming up to create a smoother travel experience, with plans to get a unified operating certificate by October 2025. The partnership aims to grow sustainably, offering expanded routes like Hawaiian’s A330 flying from Seattle to Honolulu and more flights between Seattle and Anchorage in summer 2024. New nonstop flights from San Francisco to Kona and Līhu'e are also coming in mid-2025. Although working toward full integration, they will continue to operate separately until they receive Federal Aviation Administration approval, as reported by Hawaiian Airlines' Newsroom.
