A Hazel Park resident is currently undergoing legal proceedings after an altercation turned deadly at a Warren gas station last Saturday. Al Williams, 45, was denied bond following charges for Second Degree Murder and other crimes tied to the fatal shooting.
Audacy reports that the incident began with a verbal dispute between Williams and Brandon Zaner, 38, at a location specified as near the intersection of Dequindre and 9 Mile. After initially leaving the scene, Williams allegedly returned armed with a handgun, which consequently led to a physical fight between the two men. In the midst of the incident, Williams is accused to have shot Zaner once in the chest. The victim succumbed to his injuries. In a statement obtained by The Detroit News, Warren Police Lt. John Gajewski called the shooting "senseless," emphasizing the tragic impact of Zaner's death on his two young children. "Now, they don't have a father because of a random argument in a gas station. Are you kidding me?" Gajewski said.
Williams faces felony charges, including Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, and two counts of Felony Firearm, after an argument with Zaner led to Zaner's death. They were not previously known to each other. The preliminary hearing is set for January 9. Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido said, "What began as a simple argument has ended in senseless loss of life. This kind of behavior is unacceptable and continues to tear families apart, leaving lives shattered," according to ClickOnDetroit.
