Hilliard residents can soon expect a shift in how they’re billed for trash and recycling services. As announced on the City of Hilliard's official website, beginning in July 2025, billing for these services will no longer arrive from the City but directly from Local Waste Services—the contractor currently handling waste pickup in Hilliard. This change aims to give locals more convenience without sacrificing the service level to which they are accustomed.
"Collection fees and services will not change," says the City of Hilliard's statement. Senior discounts, annual reductions, and hardship rates will remain untouched. However, the billing frequency will adjust to quarterly instead of the current semi-annual schedule. This move is intended to streamline how residents manage these regular expenses.
Payment options will also broaden to include online transactions, credit card payments, direct bank transfers, phone payments, and in-person payments at the Local Waste Services office at 1300 S. Columbus Airport Road, Columbus. Credit card fees are expected to be "less than residents currently pay," providing a slight financial relief to those who use this method.
The new system will also allow residents to easily set up recurring payments, sparing them the need to submit their dues every quarter manually. Additionally, for those who receive stormwater bills, there will be the added benefit of having those fees combined with the trash bill, thus simplifying one’s bill-paying process further. This convenience seems almost to gently beckon, inviting residents to embrace it.
Residents should also note that the first bill in January 2025 will cover the service period from January 1 to June 30, 2025. However, the announcement indicates that "The City will only accept payments through May 16, 2025. " Afterward, any overdue amounts will be subject to a lien against property taxes as aligned with City Code chapter 975, according to the City of Hilliard.
Questions about this update and future billing inquiries have their respective paths. Up until July 2025, residents can still contact the City for information at 614-334-1209. However, once the new system is in place, all trash-related questions should be redirected to Local Waste Services at 614-409-9375.
