Two suspects attempted an alleged home invasion in Bradenton, but only one survived the ordeal. The Manatee County Sheriff's Office reported that a homeowner, confronted by two intruders trying to forcibly enter his home, fired multiple shots, hitting one of the individuals. The incident, occurring in the 6700 block of Hickory Hammock Circle, unfolded yesterday night around 9 p.m. and resulted in one suspect's death after being shot multiple times. According to WFLA, the injured intruder later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital this morning.
A home's video surveillance captured the attempted break-in, as two unknown men were spotted trying to enter from the back. Not long after the homeowner's defensive response, deputies, with the assistance of their K9 units, were able to track down the fleeing accomplice a few blocks away. "Everyone is accounted for, and there is no threat to the community," the Manatee County Sheriff's Office assured following the apprehension, as per WFLA.
Sheriff Rick Wells addressed the particularities of the case, identifying the surviving suspect of Chilean descent. Arriving to California from Chile a few months ago, the suspect had been granted a 90-day visa which was due to expire in September but never returned. According to Sheriff Wells in a statement obtained by Bay News 9, the individual had made his way to Tampa about six days before the incident. "What we believe is that the suspect that survived is, Chilean descent, came to California from Chile sometime, a few months ago," Wells explained.
The motivation behind choosing the specific residence in the River Club community for the attempted invasion remains undisclosed; detectives are still laboring over this detail of the case. "We still don't have, any information to give you on why they chose this house," stated Sheriff Wells in relation to the ongoing investigation, as reported by Bay News 9.
