On Saturday morning, a 2-alarm fire broke out at the Ridge Point Apartments in southwest Houston, displacing several residents and prompting a large emergency response. The Houston Fire Department arrived at the scene near Westridge and Bartell Road around 4:20 a.m. after receiving multiple calls from tenants, according to ABC13.
As firefighters battled the fire, neighbors stepped in to help. “It was scary and instantly, you know, I was recording and when I heard a voice screaming, I just dropped the phone and we rushed over there. We helped her,” said Joseph Harvey, a local resident, to Click2Houston.
No serious injuries were reported, though one person was treated for smoke inhalation. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The American Red Cross helped those affected, and Houston Fire Department Assistant Fire Chief Michael Mire said, "There were a couple people who needed assistance, but with the commitment of our firefighters, they were able to assist them with evacuation," as reported by Click2Houston.
