Houston's 'Mattress Mack' Jim McIngvale to Undergo Open-Heart Surgery, Seeks Community SupportSource: Wikipedia/U.S. Dept. of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) from USA, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons

Houston's very own, Jim "Mattress Mack" McIngvale has taken to social media to share his upcoming battle with open-heart surgery, scheduled on Tuesday. Known for his philanthropic efforts and bustling business, the Gallery Furniture owner has faced several health issues in recent months, including a treated case of cellulitis and cognitive difficulties that prompted a hospital visit. The heart surgery is expected to address a "leaky mitral valve," a condition he revealed in his announcement.

In a candid video posted on Wednesday, McInvgale expressed gratitude for the community's support and requested continued thoughts and prayers. "Thank you for all your prayers and support as I go through this. 🙏 I'll update when I can," he stated, according to KHOU. The surgery, to be conducted at Texas Medical Center Methodist Hospital, is expected to take about four hours, after which McIngvale plans to spend a week in the hospital followed by two to three weeks of home recovery.

McIngvale's health journey hasn't been without its scares. An August episode where he missed a familiar highway exit and experienced confusion at work led to a prompt evaluation by a mobile stroke unit and a trip to St. Luke's Hospital. This wasn't McIngvale's first neurological scare; back in June 2019, he faced a similar situation. These moments have painted a picture of a man acutely aware of his mortality, despite an exterior of ceaseless energy and resilience.

In response to inquiries on how to support him during this time, McInvale showed his characteristic blend of vulnerability and business acumen. "The best thing you could do for me is pray obviously, and if you need any furniture, come out and buy furniture. That'll ease a lot of my anxiety," McInvgale humorously told well-wishers, per FOX26 Houston
