The Boulder County community was met with somber news Wednesday morning as a deceased male was discovered in the scenic Chautauqua Meadow area. According to the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, the body of an 18-year-old male was found by Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks rangers on December 4, after receiving a call around 7:00 a.m. The young man was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician from the Rocky Mountain Rescue.

An investigation is currently underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the death. Initial assessments by authorities indicate that foul play is not suspected, however, they have not ruled out other possibilities. The Boulder County Sheriff's Office and Boulder County Coroner's Office are working jointly on the ongoing investigation. The identity of the individual, as well as the exact cause and manner of death, will be released pending a full examination by the Coroner's Office.

Multiple agencies assisted in the effort, including the Boulder County Sheriff's Office, City of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks, Boulder Fire Rescue, American Medical Response, and Rocky Mountain Rescue Group. Upon completion of the on-site investigation, the deceased was carried back to the trailhead and then turned over to the Coroner’s Office by members of Rocky Mountain Rescue.
