Bryan Jermaine Davis, 37, was arrested during a routine traffic stop for a seatbelt violation in Jacksonville. With a long criminal record, Davis pleaded guilty to possession of ammunition by a convicted felon, a charge that could result in up to 15 years in federal prison, according to U.S. Attorney Roger B. Handberg.
According to the U.S. Attorney's Office release, court documents show that on July 5, during the traffic stop, Davis admitted to having marijuana in his vehicle. Officers found a ghost gun, lacking a serial number, and a bag of ammunition under the driver's seat. Davis tried to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended. He has a history of felony convictions, including robbery and drug possession, making it illegal for him to possess ammunition.
This case is part of a broader effort to address gun violence and crime through Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program that brings together law enforcement and community outreach to reduce violent crime. In support of these efforts, the Department launched a violent crime reduction strategy on May 26, 2021, focusing on community support, violence prevention, strategic enforcement, and evaluating results.
The case against Davis was being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Brenna Falzetta and investigated by the local Sheriff’s Office and ATF.
