The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office (JSO) has released a Critical Incident Briefing about an officer-involved shooting last month on Duval Station Road in Jacksonville. According to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office release, the State Attorney's Office is investigating the officers' actions. The briefing includes a video with details of the shooting and the events leading up to it.
As promised by Sheriff Waters, the video release is part of an effort to provide the public with insight into law enforcement actions. The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is not yet commenting on whether the officers' actions followed the law and internal policy. After the State Attorney's Office completes its independent review, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office will conduct an internal review, convene a Response to Resistance Board, and present the findings to the Sheriff for final consideration.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office emphasized, "The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office does not draw any conclusions regarding whether the officers' actions were appropriate with respect to the law or JSO policy until all of the facts are known, and the investigation has been completed."
The investigation continues. The actions of the officers are being reviewed. The State Attorney's Office and Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office will conduct reviews to ensure justice and due process.
