
Last week, four teenagers in Kalamazoo were arrested after police found them with three guns. Officers spotted one teen hiding a weapon at the intersection of Forest Street and Rose Street. When police approached, three of the teens ran but were caught after a short chase.
Four teenagers, ages 15 and 16, were arrested in Kalamazoo after police found three guns, one of which was recovered during a search. Three of the teens are charged with carrying a concealed weapon and resisting arrest, while the fourth is charged only with resisting arrest. The arrest happened last Wednesday night, and police released bodycam footage of the incident, according to Fox 17 and WWMT.
Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety has launched new programs to reduce juvenile gun crime, including an anonymous tip service, Silent Observer, and a gun amnesty program that started in October. Assistant Chief David Juday said, "Possessing an illegal firearm is a serious crime, and we don't want to see these juveniles get wrapped up in the criminal justice system at such a young age." Youth gun crimes in the area have dropped, with 48 incidents reported in 2024, compared to 61 in 2023 and 82 in 2022, as stated by WSBT.
