A coordinated law enforcement operation in Oshtemo Township led to the arrest of a Kalamazoo man and the seizure of several types of narcotics. The Kalamazoo Valley Enforcement Team (KVET) made the arrest last Thursday in the 1300 block of Concord Place, Fox 17 reported.
The arrest concluded a months-long investigation that began with tips about a 55-year-old man selling heroin and fentanyl. The man, already on federal probation, was discovered to have an outstanding warrant for violating his probationary terms. KVET was able to quickly apprehend him outside his residence, without incident, an operation that also culminated in the discovery of drugs inside the home.
"During Thursday's operation the man was identified and found to be on federal probation with a warrant for his arrest for violating the probationary conditions," stated the Fox 17 report. Upon searching his home, they found "delivery amounts of heroin, fentanyl, crystal methamphetamine and cocaine."
Additional charges are expected to be filed against the man, whose identity has not been released by KVET. The investigators underscored the seriousness of the narcotics found, with fentanyl known to be particularly lethal even in small quantities. KVET officers said that the suspect was taken into custody on his warrant, and that the drugs found include substances that have deeply contributed to the ongoing opioid crisis, according to WZZM 13.
