In a disheartening start to the holiday season for the Las Vegas performing arts community, the Majestic Repertory Theatre in the Arts District fell victim to a burglary. On Christmas Eve, an unknown perpetrator absconded with vital equipment valuing around $10,000, a severe hit to the theater's operations. Troy Heard, Artistic Director of the establishment, discovered the break-in on Christmas day. "Christmas day, I came in to check out the place — I was running an errand — opened up the back door and realized the back door was unlocked. The deadbolt was shot, and as I walked through the building, I noticed things were just a little off," Heard told KTNV. The stolen items included a soundboard, laptops, an iPad, and other music equipment essential for their upcoming January musical.

Despite the setback, the community's response was swift and generous. The theater promptly set up a GoFundMe campaign to recover the lost funds. Surpassing their goal rapidly, the campaign managed to quickly raise over $12,000, as of Thursday afternoon, according to News3LV. "Within 12 hours, we not only met our goal but we exceeded it. I shut down donations because we got what we need, we are so grateful for it. But then we started getting messages, we still want to give, we want to give," Heard explained in a statement obtained by KTNV.

With the surplus funds, the theater plans to enhance its security systems and invest in upcoming productions, ensuring a more secure and clear path forward into the new year. "Unfortunately, we don't have theft insurance right now 'cause we never thought it was a thing we would need," Heard conceded in his interview with KTNV.

Expressions of support have not been limited solely to financial contributions. Heard has received messages of solidarity from across the country, pointing to a widespread appreciation for the cultural value local theaters contribute to communities. "These past 24 hours has really proven to me that "Vegas Strong" is a very true phenomenon," Heard gratefully told KTNV
