A Los Angeles man, identified as 48-year-old Murlin Swanston, has been arrested by California state fugitive agents for allegedly trying to recruit Denver women into a sex trafficking ring. According to the Denver District Attorney's Office, Swanston was taken into custody with assistance from Denver DA investigators.
The investigation, led by the DA's Human Trafficking Unit, suggests that Swanston began contacting women in 2021, using commercial online sex sites to lure potential victims. "It is alleged that, starting in 2021, Swanston contacted thousands of women (many of whom were commercial sex workers) online all across the country trying to get them to take part in his sex trafficking ring," as stated by the Denver District Attorney's Office. With an unspecified number of potential victims in Denver, Investigator Joe DeAngelo from the DA’s Human Trafficking Unit is urging anyone with information to come forward.
As Swanston awaits extradition to Colorado, the Denver DA’s Office maintains its commitment to prosecuting crimes and ensuring justice within the criminal justice system. Their announcement encourages any additional victims to contact them, emphasizing their role in supporting victim's rights and crime deterrence. A date for Swanston's extradition has not yet been scheduled, and he remains in custody in California. Formal charges will be filed in Denver contingent upon his transfer.
