A tragic incident unfolded early Monday morning in Lynnwood as a shed being used as a living quarters caught fire, resulting in the death of a young man. MyEverettNews.com reports that South County Firefighters were dispatched after a call about the blaze was received just after 8 a.m.
The shed, located in the 20500 block of Larch Way, was already fully engulfed by the time firefighting teams arrived on the scene. Despite efforts to quickly control and eventually extinguish the fire within about five minutes, a 24-year-old man was found dead inside, according to information from The Herald. A resident of the main house on the property had attempted to douse the flames with a garden hose but was ultimately unsuccessful.
The identity of the deceased, as well as the cause and manner of his death, will be determined by the Snohomish County Medical Examiner's Office. The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office, which is not treating the fire as suspicious, and the Snohomish County Fire Marshal’s Office are both conducting investigations into the source of the deadly fire, as confirmed by Renee Cooper, a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office.
"It happened at a home on Larch Way just after 8 a.m.," said an early update by KIRO 7.
