Authorities in Wilmington have apprehended a man linked to a deadly stabbing that took place in early November. Wilmington Police, answering a call to check on someone's welfare on the night of November 1, discovered 30-year-old Tyler Ponzo with a critical arm injury on the 1800 block of West 4th Street, according to a Wilmington Police Department report on the nixle website.
Ponzo was quickly transported to the hospital but ultimately passed away from his injuries. The subsequent death investigation, a collaboration between the Wilmington Police and the Delaware Division of Forensic Sciences, concluded that Ponzo had been fatally stabbed. Detective Derek Haines of the Criminal Investigations Division led the inquiry and was able to quickly identify 29-year-old Souleymane Fadiga as a suspect, securing warrants for his arrest.
Fadiga was captured without incident in New York on November 22 and was extradited back to Delaware on Monday last week. He now faces charges of manslaughter and possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony. Following his arraignment in the New Castle County Court of Common Pleas, Fadiga has been detained at the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution, with bail set at $500,000 cash-only.
