Manhattan's legal system witnessed a grim conclusion to a harrowing saga of child exploitation as Michael Olson, a 56-year-old New Yorker, entered a guilty plea for a string of crimes rooted in the manipulation and sexual predation of teenage girls. According to the Manhattan District Attorney's Office, Olson's admission of guilt encompasses ten charges, including the drugging and raping of at least one girl, whom he targeted via social media.

Olson's case, originally brought to light with an indictment in June 2023, involved a 14-year-old girl whom he met on Instagram, and through offers of money and gifts, coerced into sexual encounters regularly conducted in Queens and Manhattan hotels over several months, the girl had been paid $700 weekly, up until an overdose incident led to Olson's arrest in May 2023 when EMS found numerous narcotics and a semiconscious child in his company; furthermore, following Olson's arraignment, the investigation revealed his continued exploitation and solicitation of other young girls, even while under electronic surveillance as part of his conditional release.

The guilty plea sees Olson convicted of crimes ranging from the criminal sale of a controlled substance to a minor to rape, as well as facilitating a sex offense with a controlled substance and aggravated patronizing a minor for prostitution. District Attorney Alvin Bragg described Olson's actions as "predatory" in nature and commended his office’s Human Trafficking Unit for their efforts in bringing Olson's reprehensible activities to an end, as per Manhattan District Attorney's Office.

Assistant D.A.s Courtney Razner and Jonathon Junig, supervised by Executive Assistant D.A. Justin McNabney, have been cited for their oversight in the prosecution, alongside Investigative Analysts and the support of the NYPD Human Trafficking Squad, highlighting the collaborative effort to uphold justice. Olson is set to be sentenced on February 5, 2025, and could face up to 16 years in state prison.
