A 27-year-old Massapequa man, Jeremy Emmanuel Lopez Ramirez, has been arrested and charged with the second-degree murder of his mother, following a tragic Christmas Eve incident. According to reports by ABC7NY, police discovered the victim, 57-year-old Josefina Ramirez Montero, unresponsive with multiple stab wounds at a residence on Old Sunrise Highway.
The Nassau County Homicide Squad, as stated in a press conference covered by NBC New York, allege Ramirez returned from a trip to the laundromat and subsequently attacked his mother in their family home. "He stabbed her multiple times and is observed discarding the knife outside the premise," said Stephen Fitzpatrick of the squad. Josefina, whom prepared dinner presumably for the holiday, never could have anticipated that the night would unfold with her life violently taken.
The attack is said to have occurred around 7 p.m., after which the victim was promptly transported to a nearby hospital. Despite medical efforts, Monterey succumbed to her injuries. Ramirez is expected to be arraigned in a Long Island court this Saturday.
Ramirez's history with law enforcement includes a record of arrests dating back to 2018, involving assault and criminal possession of a weapon for an incident involving a hammer. "On this particular evening, it was just him and his mother at the house, Jeremy and his mom. Mom was making some food for dinner," Fitzpatrick added as per the report. Ramirez's history suggests a propensity for violence, having been previously arrested for attempted murder, gang assault, and robbery among other charges.
No domestic histories or orders of protection were known to exist between Ramirez and his family, who he had been living with since his release from jail in January. Details regarding legal representation for Ramirez were not available at the time of the reports.
