
A Michigan State Police (MSP) K-9 named Thor was exposed to illicit drugs during a home search in Flint. The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, leading to the dog's hospitalization, as reported by MLive.
Thor was on duty with Trooper Tyler Dougherty, conducting a search based on a warrant, when the K-9 began to exhibit symptoms of drug exposure. Quick on the scene, Trooper Dougherty provided first aid to the canine before rushing him to the Michigan State University Veterinary Medical Center in East Lansing for emergency treatment, according to information obtained from WOODTV.
The medical center staff administered Narcan among other interventions, and tests revealed that Thor had opioids, cocaine, and THC in his system. Despite the ordeal, state police officials have reported that Thor is on track for a full recovery.
As part of their training, MSP canine handlers are equipped to identify and quickly address drug overdoses and other injuries that may afflict their K-9 partners, the MSP Third District highlighted in a social media post. The MSP Third District, also encouraged the public to learn more about the measures taken by the MSP Canine Unit and the veterinary staff to maintain the health of their K-9s.
