The Midland Fire Department is marking the end of an era as Battalion Chief Roger Bebeau steps down after 25 years of dedicated service. The department shared a heartfelt message on a social media post today, celebrating Bebeau's long-standing commitment to the safety and well-being of the Midland community.
Bebeau's journey with the Midland Fire Department began on Jan. 3, 2000, when he joined as a firefighter on B-shift. His career progression saw him to achieve his acting status as a Fire Truck Operator in 2006, and he was later fully promoted in 2008. As reported by WNEM, the department noted how Bebeau's time on A-shift included participation in a fireworks safety promotional video, which brought him international attention, although he chose not to pursue the spotlight beyond that.
Bebeau's career progressed steadily, achieving the rank of lieutenant in 2011 and transitioning to C-shift. He expanded his skill set by becoming a state-certified fire investigator in 2014 and a fire inspector in 2016. After briefly serving as the interim fire marshal in 2016, he returned to frontline duties as a lieutenant on A-shift. In 2019, he was promoted to battalion chief of A-shift.
Over the years, Bebeau has also remained an active participant in various facets of the Midland Fire Department. His roles included involvement with the Regional Response Team, the Midland County Rescue Task Force, and to serve on the drone team. The department's message highlights his service within Midland Professional Firefighters - Local 1315, assuming roles such as Negotiator and serving on the Midland Firefighters Youth Foundation board. His contributions were recognized with the Carl and Esther Gerstacker Firefighter of the Year award.
The Midland Fire Department extends its gratitude to Bebeau, with a statement saying, "On behalf of all of us at the Midland Fire Department, thank you for your years of service to the residents, visitors, and businesses of Midland.
