Milwaukee residents waking up to a grey canvas this Monday morning will face the challenges of navigating through a dense fog advisory. The advisory, spanning Waukesha, Milwaukee, Racine, Walworth, and Kenosha Counties, is in effect until 9 AM CST, cautioning that visibility will drop to a quarter mile or less, as issued by the National Weather Service.
With the blanket of fog enveloping the region, the National Weather Service recommends that those driving, slow down, use their headlights, and maintain ample distance between vehicles to ensure safety. The foggy conditions have endured since early morning and are expected to lift as the day wears on, giving way to a day that peaks at a cloudy 45 degrees, according to NWS, Milwaukee.
The weather outlook doesn't stop with the fog. The National Weather Service's Hazardous Weather Outlook states that following tonight's mostly cloudy skies and a low around 30 degrees, there's a snow forecast for the region. Precipitation is expected to shift from rain to a light snow late Tuesday into Wednesday morning, potentially impacting the next day’s commute with less than an inch expected to accumulate.
Looking further ahead, "a 40 to 70 percent chance for accumulating snowfall" looms for Thursday through Thursday night, raising the specter of a snow-laden end to the week. The remainder of the week could see intermittent snow chances, and by Saturday temperatures are slated to plunge to a high near 24. Despite these wintry conditions, the National Weather Service does not anticipate the need for spotter activation at this time.
As always, residents should monitor the latest forecasts, remain prepared for changing weather conditions, and heed any advisories issued by the NWS to stay safe and informed throughout the week. Milwaukeeans are getting a true taste of the erratic whims of December's weather, with each day promising a different sky than the last.
