Early Monday morning, law enforcement officers in Fond du Lac County arrested two Milwaukee men following a high-speed chase. The incident was triggered by a deputy who attempted to perform a traffic stop on a vehicle for reckless driving on I-41 near Lost Arrow Road in the Town of Byron, as confirmed by the Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Office. Despite the activation of emergency signals, the vehicle chose to not comply and increased speed, initiating a pursuit. FOX 11 Online reports that this chase commenced at approximately 4:15 a.m. and covered a distance of about 8.5 miles.
The chase continued through the city after the vehicle exited onto Johnson Street, eventually leading to an immobilization on a steep shoulder south of County Highway OO. The sheriff's office stated the vehicle failed to negotiate the curve and subsequently became stuck. At this juncture, deputies conducted what was described as a high-risk traffic stop. WBAY detailed that, following the stop, a 37-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested. He is being charged with operating while impaired, felony fleeing and eluding, recklessly endangering safety, and being a felon in possession of a firearm. The driver, who also had two active warrants, was taken to the Fond du Lac County Jail.
The arrested man's passenger, a 35-year-old also from Milwaukee, was initially taken into custody but later released without charges. It's important to note that no citizens or deputies were injured during the pursuit. However, the chase resulted in damage to a squad car belonging to the Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Office. This information was provided in statements obtained by both FOX 6 Now and WBAY.
