Parents at Golda Meir School in Milwaukee responded to a report of a potential shooting threat, with many arriving to pick up their children. After an investigation, the Milwaukee Police Department confirmed that no shots were fired and no injuries occurred. According to TMJ4 News, authorities found no firearm and made no arrests related to the incident.
The alarm at Golda Meir School was likely to have heightened in part because of a recent school shooting in Madison, prompting many parents to act quickly to ensure their children's safety. For instance, Markeena Hutchins hurried to the school after her daughter informed her about the situation, and she told TMJ4 that, "I came down here right away." Another parent, Kahri Phelps, whose heart was "literally beating out of my chest," was made aware of a concerning online post involving a student and a weapon, and a swift alert by another student to a parent helped in bringing the situation to the school’s attention.
Despite concerns among parents and students at Golda Meir School, classes continued as scheduled. A spokesperson from Milwaukee Public Schools emphasized the importance of safety and quick action, stating, "Out of an abundance of caution our staff followed our district protocol to ensure administration was able to investigate the situation quickly to identify those responsible," according to WISN. The district continues to review safety measures and encourages parents to discuss the Code of Conduct with their children in light of the threats.
