A 38-year-old man from Jackson was found dead in a vehicle submerged in a retention pond in Washtenaw County last Sunday. Michigan State Police responded to a call at the Sylvan Crossing mobile home community and confirmed the man’s identity. He had been missing since last Thursday. His family had traced his phone's last known location to the area, but earlier searches had not located him, as stated by The Detroit News.
According to WILX, a Chelsea Police officer noticed a vehicle antenna sticking out of the ice. After checking, they found a pickup truck submerged in the pond, with its roof level with the ice. Michigan State Police said, "It appears the driver became disoriented and drove into the frozen pond."
The Washtenaw County Dive Team responded to a crash at the Sylvan Crossing mobile home community, using a chainsaw to free a vehicle trapped in ice. They recovered the body of a man, identified by the Washtenaw County Medical Examiner. Investigations are ongoing, and officials have not yet determined if drugs or alcohol played a role. "The investigation into the man's death is ongoing," state police said, as reported by WLNS
