In a tragic turn of events, a 47-year-old Willis man was fatally shot by a Monroe County Sheriff's deputy this past weekend in Exeter Township. The incident, which occurred last Saturday saw the man, identified as Brian Donald Miller, lose his life following an altercation with the deputy. According to WXYZ News, Miller was wanted by the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office for failure to appear on charges of larceny from a person and resisting & obstructing.
The Monroe County Sheriff's Office stated that the deputy was responding to a call reporting a suspicious subject near the 9000 block of Hoffman Road in London Township. A subsequent report described a subject matching the same description on the 6300 block of Bluebush Road in Exeter Township. As per information from a ClickOnDetroit report, upon the deputy's confrontation with Miller, a physical assault on the deputy ensued, which led to the fatal shooting.
The deputy involved was transported to an area hospital to treat non-life-threatening injuries sustained during the encounter. In the aftermath of the shooting, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office conveyed their condolences to Miller's family and friends through a media statement, emphasizing that the fatal outcome was not what they sought when the deputy responded to the initial call. The incident is now under investigation by the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office to ensure an independent review.
"This incident and its result was not the outcome sought by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office or the Deputy Sheriff who was called to respond to a 911 call," disclosed the sheriff's office in a release, as reported by CBS Detroit.
