The Norristown Police Department is in the process of turnover, following the resignation of Chief Jacqueline Bailey-Davis. Officials confirmed Bailey-Davis' resignation on Tuesday, with her departure effective immediately, as reported by NBC Philadelphia. She had been in her position since January 2, and her tenure has been notably short.
Despite assuming the role only about a year ago, Chief Bailey-Davis's resignation comes after being placed on administrative leave on Nov. 25, for reasons left unspecified by the town officials. As cited by CBS News Philadelphia, Norristown's Municipal Administrator Leonard Lightner said the decision to place her on leave was "not taken lightly" and reinforced the commitment to "ensuring transparency and accountability while respecting the confidentiality of personnel matters."
With Bailey-Davis stepping down, daily operations within the department are expected to continue without interruption. In their search for a new police chief, Norristown officials have assured that the police department will maintain its regular function, an assurance that mirrors the official position that the department will remain operational as stated in the municipal press release.
After receiving a severance package, Bailey-Davis was given paid leave due to what officials described as a "personnel issue," and over the past couple of weeks, Bailey-Davis chose to resign. According to a statement from Norristown Municipal Administrator Leonard Lightner obtained by 6abc, "We wanted to do this amicably. We were just waiting. I know she was just making a decision on what she wanted to do."
