An incident unfolded in North Las Vegas yesterday morning when a collision between a black Jeep Cherokee and a gray Chrysler 200 at the intersection of Tropical Parkway and North 5th Street left one person dead and several others injured. According to a report from News3LV, North Las Vegas Police arrived at the scene around 2:48 a.m. to discover two individuals had been ejected from the Chrysler due to the impact.
The severe incident resulted in the arrest of the Jeep's driver, 30-year-old Bria Standley, who reportedly fled the crash site on foot but was later apprehended in a nearby park. Standley now faces charges including DUI resulting in death, two counts of DUI resulting in serious bodily harm, and three counts of reckless driving resulting in death or serious bodily harm, among others. In a report by KTNV, it was noted that the police department believes speed and impairment were factors in this crash.
Investigators believe the Chrysler was making a legal left turn with a green arrow when it was struck by the Jeep Cherokee, which was eastbound on Tropical Parkway and ran a red light. The Clark County Coroner's Office has been tasked with releasing the identity of the deceased as well as the cause and manner of death once their investigation concludes.
The survivors of the crash, a man and the driver of the Chrysler, were transported to the hospital, where one has been reported in stable condition. Witnesses at the scene reported that Standley's vehicle was speeding and may have been impaired, which could influence the charges against her. Anyone with further information regarding the collision is encouraged to contact the North Las Vegas Police Department at 702-633-9111, or to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers of Nevada at 702-385-5555.
