An early morning blaze in Fairfield County has resulted in the death of one individual. The fire struck at a residence on Valley View Road, closely intersecting Mud House Road in Pleasant Township, northeast of Lancaster. The incident was reported at approximately 6:40 a.m., as detailed by the Lancaster Fire Department to NBC4i.
Fire units from the Lancaster Fire Department and Pleasant Township Fire Department were dispatched, followed by the Fairfield County Coroner’s Office and State Marshal officers to investigate. The inquiry into what sparked the fatal incident is still ongoing, and thus far, they have not determined the cause of the fire. No other injuries related to the tragic event have been reported, as noted by ABC6 News.
Pleasant Township Fire Chief Michael Hutton conveyed to WBNS that firefighters discovered the body of a woman mere minutes after gaining entry into the conflagrated home. The woman was declared deceased at the scene, though as of this report, her identity is yet to be disclosed.
Investigators believe the devastating fire may have started in the kitchen, but the precise origin and cause remain under investigation. A Fairfield County Sheriff's deputy who was first on the scene attempted to enter to aid those inside but was driven back due to the intensity of the blaze, sustaining a minor hand injury in the effort. The state fire marshal and the coroner are actively working at the scene as part of the ongoing investigation, with more updates expected in due course.
