An Orlando-area doctor, Thomas Wentzell, has been arrested and is facing second-degree murder charges in connection to his wife's death. According to WFTV, the Windermere Police Department took Wentzell into custody after a series of events that began early Monday morning.
Responding to a 911 call, Windermere Police discovered Linda Wentzell dead in her home on the 600 block of Magnolia St. around 1:30 a.m. Expressing suicidal tensions, the husband and now suspect made a later call to the police in Ocoee, stating he "deserved to die" for killing his wife. These developments follow an initial investigation where officers indicated a need for a thorough inquiry, citing initial observations, witness statements, and the overall circumstances at the scene, WESH reported.
Authorities noted inconsistencies in Thomas Wentzell's account during early interviews, with an arrest affidavit highlighting the doctor's cuts, bruises, and abrasions as consistent with having been in an altercation. Thomas Wentzell initially asserted that he had acquired the wounds while playing with the family dog.
Following his confession of guilt in the death of his wife, Wentzell was detained. The Windermere Police Department, with the inclusion of the Winter Garden Police Department Homicide Team and Forensics Unit, found additional incriminating evidence, including a voicemail confession and a suicide note at the Wentzell residence.
Orlando Health has confirmed that Thomas Wentzell's medical practice in Ocoee is closed, and they are working to reschedule his patients. As of the latest reports, Wentzell remains in custody at the Orange County Jail without bond.
