As the mercury plummets in Palmdale, local organizations are stepping up to provide refuge from the biting cold. The City of Palmdale has partnered with Victory Outreach, making the facility at 37419 25th St. East a designated warming center for individuals of all ages when temperatures take a dip below the freezing mark. According to a city announcement, the center is set to be open every evening from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. up until Saturday, Dec. 16. Those in need of transportation to the facility can quickly arrange it by calling a designated phone number.

To further combat the chill, Advancing Communities Together is offering an emergency winter shelter in harmony with the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA). Located at 38626 9th St. East, the shelter aims to warmly welcome residents Monday through Friday from 5 p.m. to 7 a.m., and to continuously shield them from the cold on weekends, as detailed by the City of Palmdale. The shelter boasts 20 beds for men and 15 for women, welcoming individuals over the age of 18. To reach this haven, individuals can simply call 211 for transportation arrangements and more information.
The City implores its residents to not only seek shelter but to be prepared for these extreme temperature dips. A plethora of emergency preparedness information along with referral services can be accessed by dialing the convenient toll-free 2-1-1 number, ready to assist 24/7. For those who prefer digital access, www.211la.org offers the same services with a click, the City of Palmdale noted.
