The city of Pasadena is experiencing a surge of solidarity and support for its Black Infant Health (BIH) program, thanks to the dedicated efforts of the Pasadena (CA) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi, Inc. In a community-driven quest to address the stark disparities facing Black infants and their families, the organization has teamed up with the Pasadena Public Health Department to host a donation drive. The event, set for Saturday, Dec. 14, from 9 a.m. to noon, invites locals to make a difference by dropping off much-needed new and unused baby items at 1855 N. Fair Oaks Ave.

The donations, which include essential items such as diapers, baby wipes, and baby formula, will bolster the program's capacity to support Black birthing people and their babies. "We are excited to support the annual donation drive and make a lasting impact on the community," Jarvis Sams, the Polemarch of the chapter, expressed in a statement obtained by the City of Pasadena's official news release.

The BIH program has heartedly shouldered the responsibility of catering to the well-being of pregnant and postpartum Black individuals for over three decades, devising stress reduction strategies, and developing life skills within a culturally affirming framework.

Acknowledging the community's contribution to this cause, Manuel Carmona, the Acting Director of Public Health, lauded the public's generosity. "We are grateful for the support and generosity demonstrated by our community," he stated

Pasadena's community members who are either pregnant or postpartum and of Black descent can seek solace and support through the BIH program. Additional information about the program and the application process can be found on the Black Infant Health program website.
