
A student at Patapsco High School was taken to a hospital following a medical emergency that occurred near the gymnasium on Thursday morning. According to WMAR-2 News, during the emergency response, it was found that the student had a loaded gun. The exact details of the medical emergency have not been revealed.
Details on how the firearm was discovered were not provided. However, the incident prompted an investigation that is currently underway. Baltimore County police, having been alerted by the school that the student was at the hospital, informed the school administrators of the weapon. According to the information shared by a spokesperson with Baltimore County Public Schools, as per FOX Baltimore, school resources officers were among the first responders.
The incident led to the principal's immediate notification of families. "Dear Patapsco High School and Center for the Arts Community- I am writing to inform you of an incident that occurred this morning. A student experienced a medical emergency near the gym. Students immediately notified staff and administration, and our nurse, SRO, and administrators responded to the scene. We contacted 911 and emergency personnel responded to the school to attend to the student. The student was transported to a local hospital for additional care. After the student was transported by EMS, we were informed by Baltimore County police that the student had been in possession of a loaded gun. This is an active investigation, and we are unable to provide additional details at this time. Thank you for your continued support," the principal wrote in a message acquired by FOX Baltimore.
Parents and the school community are understandably concerned about the safety implications of this event, although officials have not relayed additional information regarding the student’s intentions with the firearm.
