Philadelphia's festive spirit is set to brightly illuminate Boathouse Row once again this holiday season. The Fairmount Park Conservancy, in partnership with Philadelphia Parks & Recreation, is gearing up to showcase the iconic holiday lights that adorn the historic boathouses along the Schuylkill River. These nightly displays, glittering from sunset to sunrise, have been a tradition since 1979, becoming a staple of the city's yuletide celebrations.

The eagerly anticipated lights will make their return, delighting spectators from roughly 4:40 p.m. to 7:20 a.m. each evening. Boathouse Row recognized as one of Philadelphia’s most iconic landmarks, will be especially radiant during this time of the year. This continuance of lighting the boathouses, a practice initiated over four decades ago, serves not only to spread holiday cheer but to also preserve a piece of the city's rich heritage.

Revealed in a recent announcement on the city's official website, a variety of themed lights will grace the Schuylkill River's banks. Visitors can look forward to an array of special events queued up for the season. From December 6 to December 23, "Winter Sparkle" will feature a traveling blue and white light sequence, setting a serene atmosphere reminiscent of winter’s charm. Then, Christmas Eve and Christmas will see Boathouse Row bathed in traditional red and green hues, a nod to the timeless colors of the festive season.

According to the official announcement, from December 26 to December 30, an hourly rotation will be on display, alternating between Kwanzaa-inspired red, dark purple, and green and the blue & white of Hanukkah. Diverse festivities will continue to be featured, culminating in a radiant New Year’s Eve spectacle.
