Heads up, Philly drivers. If you were planning on cruising down Lincoln Drive this Saturday, you might want to rethink your route. The Department of Streets has announced a temporary closure of Lincoln Drive between Wissahickon Avenue and Ridge Avenue/Kelly Drive for maintenance work, according to the City of Philadelphia. The shutdown kicks in from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., December 7.
During the closure, southbound traffic will hit a roadblock at Wissahickon Avenue. A marked detour will reroute drivers along Walnut Lane to Lincoln Drive's terminus at Ridge Avenue. While the city hasn't laid out a specific detour for northbound traffic, blocked at all south end entrances, it suggests using Walnut Lane or Schoolhouse Lane instead, as per the City of Philadelphia.
For those who prefer the lanes less taken by cars, note that the path is not clear for pedestrians and cyclists either. They are advised to steer clear of the area while the crews are at work. The closure is aimed at providing a safe environment for city workers carrying out repairs on this tricky stretch of road, as reported by the City of Philadelphia.
Kristin Del Rossi, the city's Streets Commissioner, said the weekend schedule is intended "to expedite repairs and minimize disruption to motorists" and to ensure employees' safety. Officers from the Police Department will be on the ground to ensure everything flows smoothly—or, as smoothly as it can when a primary thoroughfare is off-limits, as per the City of Philadelphia.
Expect normal traffic to resume post haste—or precisely at 2 p.m. The Streets Department assures the public that their crews will make "every effort to minimize the inconvenience" to those affected by the work, according to the City of Philadelphia.
