In a significant move by law enforcement in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, a man has been indicted on serious charges, including attempting to murder a DEA agent. The U.S. Attorney's Office in Pittsburgh, through a press release issued today, detailed that Drew Gordon, 22, faces accusations of attempted murder and assault of a federal law enforcement officer, as well as various drug and firearms-related offenses.
The case stems from an incident where Gordon allegedly opened fire on a DEA agent multiple times. The agent's vehicle was hit, but he was not injured. According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, the DEA agent was engaged in an unrelated investigation in Pittsburgh's Carrick neighborhood on August 30 when the shooting occurred. Investigators have since linked Gordon to the shooting through various forms of evidence, including cell phone records, surveillance footage, and ballistic analysis.
Following the shooting event, authorities executed a search warrant at Gordon's residence. The search yielded over 100 bricks of fentanyl, quantities of crack cocaine, powder cocaine, and about $10,000 in cash. Firearms, including a 9mm Glock pistol with a high-capacity magazine, were also confiscated.
Concerning the broader implications of such violence, FBI Pittsburgh Special Agent in Charge Kevin Rojek articulated the dangers posed by attacks on federal officers, indicating, "The attempted murder of a federal law enforcement officer, someone who dedicates their life to public safety, threatens our entire community." He confirmed the agencies' commitment to achieving justice for such offenses, reflecting a stance united against violence towards those on the frontlines of community protection, as the U.S. Attorney's Office reported.
Gordon's sentence could be severe if convicted on all charges, ranging from a minimum of 20 years to life imprisonment and potential fines of up to $8 million.
