Residents in Raleigh and surrounding areas should prepare to bundle up as unseasonably cold temperatures take hold of central North Carolina this week. According to the latest Hazardous Weather Outlook released by the National Weather Service in Raleigh, NC, the region can expect lower-than-average temperatures, with the mercury poised to dip as much as 10 to 20 degrees below the norm.

During the coldest time, which includes Tuesday through Wednesday morning, forecasters anticipate the chill factor to make it feel like the teens to lower 20s. The National Weather Service reminds everyone to "dress in layers and ensure your pets have access to plenty of food, water, and shelter indoors if possible." While no hazardous weather is expected today or tonight, people should remain alert as the forecast suggests a chance of flurries late tonight between 1am and 3am, and again a chance of rain by Saturday night.

Daytime temperatures are expected to consistently remain in the 40s, with sunny skies prevailing aside from the predicted flurries and possible rain showers. Although conditions are to briefly moderate Wednesday night and Thursday, bringing temperatures up to a high near 57, the cold snap is expected to quickly resume with Friday and Saturday bearing the brunt of this unseasonably cold spell.

To combat the chill, central North Carolina citizens are encouraged to adopt measures to keep warm. With night temperatures expected to be particularly frigid—it will "feel like teens to lower 20s each morning," as per the forecast—additional precautions should be taken to safeguard against the cold, especially in the overnight hours when the temperatures will predictably plunge.
