With a full team onboard, Raleigh Water's Large Valve team has set a new productivity record this year. Having operated under capacity with only half the usual staff in the past, the team's recent performance marks a significant achievement in municipal water system maintenance, according to an announcement from the City of Raleigh's water utility.

The importance of this team cannot be understated, valves are critical components of any water distribution network, and they ensure the reliable delivery of water to homes and businesses. "Our preventive maintenance goals are centered around our customers, and it’s incredibly reassuring to know we’ve done everything possible to inform them of any issues and help maintain Raleigh Water’s reputation as one of the best in the nation. It truly is a team effort, everyone plays a vital role, and we take pride in delivering the best service possible. We’re like one big happy family," Tyree Smith, a Utilities Specialist, told City of Raleigh.

In October 2024, the team completed 2,693 valve maintenance tasks, a significant increase from their previous record of 2,101 in November of 2022. With the team at full strength, they managed to exceed expectations by a notable margin, demonstrating the critical nature of having a dedicated, fully staffed maintenance team for the city's water infrastructure.

The Raleigh Water Large Valve team's success speaks not only to the individuals, but the collective power of community-minded public service. The team of specialists, which includes Andrew Chalk, Ryan Milton, Tyree Smith, Travis Harvey, Bobby Massenburg, Jairo Sosa, Osvaldo Negron, John Piontek, John Johnson, Ziquan Hyman, Michael Murphy, and Vernon Smith, looks forward to the upcoming year with optimism and a strong commitment to their work.
