Raleigh Water's D.E. Benton and E.M. Johnson Water Treatment Plants have recently been lauded for their exceptional work in providing clean drinking water by the North Carolina Division of Water Resources. Both facilities achieved the North Carolina Area Wide Optimization Award, recognizing their efforts in delivering water quality that surpasses the minimums set by both federal and state regulations, according to a statement obtained by City of Raleigh.
Further cementing their commitment to water quality, these plants have not only been recognized this year but have earned the coveted “Gold Star” honor as well. This particular distinction is reserved for those that have maintained the Area Wide Optimization Award for an impressive duration—10 or more consecutive years. A "Gold Star" isn't something you stumble upon; it's earned through the consistency of excellence in service and dedication, as per the City of Raleigh.
“We’re honored to be recognized by the North Carolina Division of Water Resources,” Whit Wheeler, director of Raleigh Water, told the news outlet. The awards serve as an acknowledgment of the team’s hard work, Wheeler added, “This award is a testament to our team’s dedication to providing our customers with the highest quality water.” This endorsement by the state authorities is not merely ceremonial but reaffirms the trust that over 630,000 customers put in their water provider, obtained by the City of Raleigh.
Turbidity levels are a critical factor in assessing water quality, as they indicate the clarity of the water and how effectively it’s been purified from potentially harmful contaminants. By keeping these levels low, Raleigh Water ensures that the liquid life flowing through Raleigh's homes and businesses is not just clear but safe. It’s an ongoing endeavor that the department remains deeply committed to, as they serve the ever-growing water needs of the community. More information on the award and what it entails can be found in the City of Raleigh's official website.
