On Monday, Maison Springston was handed a sentence of seven years in prison and an additional eight years of extended supervision for his connection to a fentanyl overdose death occurring in April 2023 in Ripon. As reported by FOX6 News, the Fond du Lac County District Attorney's Office detailed the sequence of the drug transaction, tracing back from Donovyn Mueller, the initial target of the investigation, through several individuals until reaching the victim.
Springston, who was 18 at the time of the incident, faced charges alongside co-defendants, one of whom, Joseph Schmidt-Rehbein, was merely 15 when involved. They are said to have spent time with the victim at Selfridge Park before leading him to a house where the lethal substance was taken. A critical witness account described seeing the victim looking akin to 'a zombie'. Noteworthy in this tragic event, as highlighted by WBAY, is that during the overdose, rather than seeking aid, Michael Manske reportedly yelled at the victim to leave the house. Adding to the grim narrative, Springston and his accomplices are alleged to have robbed the ailing man before discarding the evidence in a creek.
Earlier, Springston pleaded no-contest to the charge of first-degree reckless homicide by delivering drugs. This plea came before his sentencing, resulting in the bifurcated sentence now imposed upon him. This development was confirmed by WeAreGreenBay.com, with Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric Toney officially announcing the prison sentence following Springston's guilty plea in August.
The aftermath of this case continues to unfold as co-defendants await their own sentences. Michael Manske's sentencing is slated for January 21, 2025, while Joseph Schmidt-Rehbein is expected to hear his fate on December 20, 2024. Finally, Donovyn Mueller, identified as the supplier of the fentanyl, will face judgment on February 7, 2025, detailed by FOX6 Now.
