The National Weather Service in Sacramento has issued several advisories for Northern California due to expected weather disruptions. A "Winter Weather Advisory" is in effect, with mountain snow, valley rain, and gusty winds forecasted through early next week. These conditions may impact travel in the Sacramento region and Sierra Nevada, according to the National Weather Service.
The National Weather Service is warning of "moderate travel impacts" due to snow in the area. Snow has already started in the Coastal Range, and chain controls are in place on some highways. Shasta County could get 4 to 9 inches of snow, and the West Slope Northern Sierra Nevada may see 6 to 12 inches above 5,000 feet.
There will be a short break in the weather early Friday, but heavier rain and snow will return soon after. The Valley north of I-80 could get up to 2.5 inches of rain, and the mountains might see up to 4 inches. Snow is expected to be heavy, especially on Saturday morning north of I-80, with up to 3-4 feet of snow in the Sierra and Shasta County. Winds could gust over 40 MPH in some areas. After a break on Sunday, another storm is expected on Monday, with more rain and wind, but less intense than the weekend storm, as reported by the National Weather Service.
