Clearwater residents and visitors can once again enjoy the sandy shores and natural beauty of Sand Key Park starting today, as reported by the Pinellas County Government. The 95-acre coastal haven at 1060 Gulf Blvd. had been off-limits since September due to the twin hurricanes Helene and Milton, but cleanup and restoration efforts have finally brought the park back to a state ready for public use.
Let's talk amenities—Sand Key Park isn't just a beach; it's got trails, boardwalks, picnic areas, even a playground, and a place for your dog to get in on the fun because everyone knows that post-hurricane restorations or not a day at the beach is not complete without a happy, sandy pup or four. The park, open from the ungodly hour of 7 a.m. to sunset, will also implement a parking fee hike from $5 to $6 starting Jan. 1, so maybe getting in those beach days while the getting's—financially speaking—is still good; year-round beach bums might want to consider snagging an annual beach parking permit.
With Sand Key Park's return, Pinellas County is keen to underscore its progress on restoring other gems in its park repertoire. Fort De Soto Park's campground is now partially electrified once more and its East Beach has welcomed beachgoers back, although heed the call to watch out for debris—Mother Nature's unwanted souvenirs that can pop up on the shore or lurk beneath the waters. Tiki Gardens at Indian Shores and Lake Seminole Park are on the comeback schedule, ready to open their metaphorical doors to nature lovers this Saturday and the following Saturday, Dec. 28th, respectively.
